HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development is pleased to announce that Laura Swaine has been hired as the new Executive Director, effective July 2, 2014.

Laura comes from the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre where she has been the Provincial Coordinator of the Healthy Relationships for Youth Program for the past two years. Under her leadership, this program has doubled in size and won numerous awards and accolades.

Prior to that, Laura received her Masters of Arts in Leadership Studies. She also has experience working at the YMCA in BC, and as a teacher in China.

Laura brings a wealth of experience in leadership development, social justice, alternative education, adult education, positive youth development, civic engagement and youth community engagement.

Please join us in welcoming Laura to HeartWood at our annual AGM at the Women’s Council House (989 Young Street) on June 26th, 6:30 – 7:00, with a social gathering afterwards.

It is at this gathering that we also bid farewell to outgoing Executive Director, Maria Cain. The Board of Directors and Staff of HeartWood would like to express their sincere appreciation to Maria for her dedicated service over the past six years. She leaves an indelible mark on HeartWood. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
