Wonder’neath Open Studio Drop-In Program // Every Friday & Saturday from 2 PM to 7 PM @ 2891 Isleville Street


Wonder’neath is a shared independent art studio in the North End that promotes a collaborative environment with an emphasis on building community relationships. Its Open Studio program welcomes everyone of all ages to create, regardless of skill level. A large variety of art supplies (such as felt, screenprinting materials, watercolour paint, and even an old manual typewriter) and snacks are provided!

Hoist Halifax Teen Tech Workshop// June 18th 2016 from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM @ Volta Labs, 1505 Barrington Street 7th Floor


Curious about how to create your own website or app? Hoist is a new tech club for youth ages 12-19 who are interested in coding and entrepreneurship. The worksop will feature a lesson from an industry pro, a mini-hackathon session to apply your new skills, and a discussion session to debrief and reflect on the day. Pizza is provided, but you’ll need to bring your own laptop and charger.

OUTeast is celebrating its 5th year of bringing the best in LGBTQ+ film and video! Two free events are open to the public, including “Outlasting the Tides: Who + What is Missing from the Queer Archive?” (5:30 PM @ Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery), an invitation to discuss what may be missing from MediaQueer.ca’s database as well as two film screenings at “Retrospective Screening: Full Blast + Welcome To Africville” (8:00 PM @ Saint Mary’s University Sobeys Lounge).

Did you know that you can use your library card to download a pass that grants free admission to 28 Nova Scotia Museum sites? This is a great opportunity to check out the new “Nocturnal Life: Animals at Night” interactive exhibit at the Museum of Natural History, learn about the Halifax Explosion at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, or explore the 1815 estate of Richard John Uniacke, who served as Nova Scotia’s Attorney General from 1797-1830.

Online Independent Film Festival // June 12th, 2016 at 2pm @ Halifax Central Library BMO Room & online from June 6th to 15th


OIFF is geared towards showcasing the work of recent post-secondary Maritime film grads. All are invited to attend the Online Independent Film Festival’s (OIFF) “Real Life” Premiere at the Halifax Central Library. If you can’t make it to the in-person event, all 8 short films will be available online from June 6th-15th.
